Student Dealers hope to be hired at Kansas Star CasinoThe Kansas Star Casino has been hosting a casino school for those who want to start a career in casino table game dealing. Eighty students have signed up for the school which is located in Mulvane in an office building. The casino is set to open up in 2012 and they will be hiring all types of dealers including craps and blackjack dealers.
The students at the school train for dealer games for four hours a day. The students go to school five days a week and will continue to attend the school until the casino opens in 2012. The students are split up into two sessions so they will have an easier time learning the ins and outs of each table game.
Eight hundred people applied to attend the dealer school and eighty people out of the large number of applicants were chosen to attend the school. Each applicant had to take a written test to assess their knowledge of cards as well as math capabilities. The applicants also had to go through an interview process before they would be chosen.
Scott Cooper the general manager of the Kansas Star casino commented on the students of the school by stating: “This group was selected based on personality, our perception that they can learn the rules and aren’t afraid to get up in front of the public.” Many of the people at the school are unemployed and many are from the auto and aircraft industry. The majority of the students are women, with forty five being women and thirty five being men.
The casino is ready to hire about five hundred people when the casino opens so hopefully all of those who graduate from the casino school will be able to find employment within the casino.
